Reptiles have always fascinated me - I did a project on snakes when I was in Primary School, although I had to wait a few years before I held one! When I was around 9 years old I found a lizard that had just dropped it's tail, from then I was fascinated by lizards. My husband doesn't like snakes so I have never got one, but I used to have a Bearded Dragon:
Reptiles can make wonderful pets, make sure you research before getting one. They have special requirements such as heating, lighting, housing and food. Both of mine ate live food - crickets, locusts and waxworms. Bearded Dragons also require greens. It might sound complicated, but once you have done the research they can bring you lots of pleasure.
Here is a little bit of information: Bearded Dragon's do have a beard. They can puff it out and make it go black. They do this for various reasons, but I think some do it sometimes just to show us they can!! Both beardies and leos shed their skin, the differences are: Leos eats their skin - beardies don't. Leopard Gecko's shed all their skin in one go, Bearded Dragon's take their time over it -shedding a leg, then the back, another leg and so on. Leopard Gecko's need a humid environment to shed, Bearded Dragon's need a dry environment. Leopard Gecko's have a fat tail in relation to their body - the tail holds the fat reserves and is a sign of good health. Leopard Gecko's like some other lizards can drop their tails if frightened - it will grow back but may never look as good. If it is dropped, the fat reserves will need to be built up again - pinkies and waxworms are good for this. |
